FLAGSTAFF, Ariz. (UNLVrebels.com) – The UNLV women's track & field team opened the 2025 indoor season on Friday afternoon, competing at the annual Lumberjack Team Challenge hosted by Northern Arizona University.
The Rebels crowned a champion among the 14 women's events,
Jaydea Carter finishing as the top competitor in the women's 60m hurdles on a 8.47 final mark. The senior beat out the second-place finisher by .02 seconds, hitting the exact time she ran during the prelims session earlier in the day.
T'Erica Boyd made her Rebel debut with a top-eight finish of her own, finishing eighth and qualifying with her prelim time of 8.89.
The Scarlet & Gray took multiple finalists in the other prelim-final event of the night,
Kennedi Porter and
Chinyere Okoro making their way through the 60m prelims. Porter would drop her prelim time by .03 en route to a runner-up performance in the finals, finishing on a final time of 7.43. Okoro would push a 7.55 prelim time in the event, finishing fifth overall in the final.
The Rebel throws crew featured a second-place performance in
Krishna Jayasankar, the junior tossed her shot put 14.86m (48' 9") for the runner-up distance, beating out the third-place finisher by almost two meters (1.82m).
Roxene Simpson rounded out the top-eight competitors in the event, throwing a 12.30m (40' 4.25") distance on her first throw of the meet.
Before setting a new personal-best distance in the shot put, freshman
Lauryn Williams led the charge for UNLV in the women's weight throw, qualifying for finals in the event. The Los Angeles native tossed a distance of 14.14m (46' 4.75") for ninth place overall, her teammates Simpson and
Madelynn Wattles finishing 10th and 11th in the event, respectively. Freshman
Sophia Clark also earned a personal-best distance in the event.
The distance crew earned several personal-best marks on the day, earning three in the women's mile and two more in the 800m. Senior
Jaida Lyles' personal-best time through the 6880 ft altitude earned her a top-eight finish in the event, crossing the finish at a 2:23.62 mark for seventh-place overall.
Alana Sangprasit also picked up her personal-best time in the same event, winning her heat as well.

Aine McDade and
Taylor Gauthier all achieved personal-best times in the women's mile earlier in the meet.
The meet's final event, the women's 4x400m relay, featured another second-place finish for UNLV, finishing almost four seconds faster than the bronze-medal finisher in the meet. The relay team consisted of
Sadia Green, Porter, Okoro and
AnnaKay Maitland, the team finishing on a 3:53.67 final time.
The Rebels will be back in action for the Ted Nelson Invitational next weekend, taking place on Saturday, January 25. The meet will take place in College Station, Texas, hosted by Texas A&M. To get updates on all things Rebel track & field, links to the season's meets can be found on the team's
