COLLEGE STATION, Texas (UNLVrebels.com) – The UNLV women's track & field team rounded out the Ted Nelson Invitational on Saturday afternoon, wrapping up the two-day meet hosted by Texas A&M.
The Rebels found a pair of finalists among the meet's two events with a prelim-final format,
Kennedi Porter and
Jaydea Carter making their way into their respective top eights. Porter finished fourth overall in the women's 60m, dropping .05 seconds from her prelim performance to run a 7.44 in the finals event. Carter moved her way up from sixth to fifth place in the final of the 60m hurdles, running a time of 8.47.
Members of the Rebels' distance crew found a pair of personal-best times during the meet,
Breanna Blanks dropping five seconds from her previous personal-best time in the women's mile. The freshman notched a 5:22.38 final time, sophomore
Alana Sangprasit earning a personal-best time of 2:24.54 in the women's 800m. Both previously-mentioned athletes this weekend earned their new personal-best times after picking them up last weekend.
Lauren Williams represented the throws team with a personal-best of her own, the freshman also picking up a personal-best mark after originally setting it last weekend. The freshman made her mark in the women's shot put, tossing a distance of 11.94m (39' 2.25").
UNLV's 4x400m A relay was able to secure a top-eight time of their own, racing a season-best time of 3:49.82 in the event to finish fifth overall. The quad of runners in the event consisted of
Sadia Green, Porter,
Kaitlynn Webbe and
Kaelin Gowdy, Gowdy's split time of 56.73 as the anchor leg was marked as the fastest anchor split in the heat.
The Rebels will next be competing in Spokane, Wash., in two weeks at the Riverfront Invite & Combined Events. That meet will stretch across three days, starting on Thursday, Feb. 6 through Saturday, Feb. 8. DAY ONE
The UNLV women's track & field team opened the Ted Nelson Invitational on Friday night, competing in the women's weight throw. The event was the standalone women's event of the night for the two-day invitational, hosted by Texas A&M.
The Scarlet & Gray entered four student-athletes in the event, senior
Madelynn Wattles leading the charge with the highest finish for the Rebels. The Boise, Idaho, native tossed a distance of 14.23m (46' 8.25"), besting her distance at the Lumberjack Team Challenge last weekend by .68m.
Sophia Clark was the next-highest member of the roster in the event, the freshman going back-to-back weekends of 13.40m (43' 11.25") to kick off her freshman campaign.
The rest of the events are set to kick off at 8 a.m. PT on Saturday, Jan. 25, starting with the women's open 3000m. Following that will be the women's 60m hurdles and 60m prelim-final, mile, 400m, 800m, 200m, DMR and 4x400m relay. The field events start at 9 a.m. PT with the pole vault and long jump, the other events on the day consisting of the shot put, high jump and triple jump.
