LAS VEGAS (UNLVRebels.com) - The UNLV volleyball team capped off its second conference home match of the season with a 3-2 win over New Mexico on Thursday evening at The Pavilion. The Rebels got career-high performances from Jaida Harris and Agata Makowska in the Mountain West contest that consisted of 30-32, 25-19, 25-27, 25-17, 18-16 set scores.
With the victory, the Scarlet & Gray improved to 9-8 overall and 3-4 in the conference, while the Lobos saw their respective marks drop to 8-10 and 0-7. More impressively, the Rebel triumph halted their three-match losing streak.
The Rebels outhit the Lobos by 73 points (.335 to .262) and owned advantages in kills (84-67) and attack attempts (188-183), but committed two more errors (21-19). UNLV hit a match-high .491 in the second set, and earned themselves a .400 clip in set four along with a .370 hitting percentage in the third set.
Harris paced the Rebels offensively with her career-high 27 kills that consisted of nine digs, three service aces, three blocks (two block assists, one solo) and one assist. Makowska picked up her fourth double-double of the year behind a combination of a career-high 32 assists and a team tying-high 20 digs, which was also a career high. Fellow Rebel setter Kaia Thiele chipped in a career-best 28 assists and added four digs and a team tying-high three service aces.
Rheanna Deen-Jackson also loomed large on both sides of the net for UNLV, throwing down a career-best 15 kills as well as having a part in three assisted blocks and four digs. Alondra Alarcon posted her third double-double of the season with 14 kills and 14 digs. Brooklynn Williams (13 kills) and Basia Latos (11 kills) joined the double-digit kill affair as five Rebels earned themselves double-digit kills.
REBEL NOTES: Libero Caleigh King posted 20 digs to reach 838 career digs and is two digs away from joining the program's top ten career digs list.
