LAS VEGAS (UNLVRebels.com) - The UNLV volleyball team completed a perfect weekend of play with its 3-1 home victory over San Diego State in Mountain West play at The Pavilion. The Rebels, who won behind set scores of 25-15, 27-29, 25-18, 25-20, pulled away from the Aztecs with wins in the third and fourth set after the two sat deadlocked at 1-all at the break.
With the win, the Scarlet & Gray has won four MW matches with 10 conference games left in the regular season. Additionally, UNLV upped its overall record to 10-8 and its MW mark to 4-4. SDSU, on the other hand, sits at 11-8 on the year and 6-2 in the conference after Saturday's loss.
The Rebels outhit the Aggies by 61 points (.314 to .253) with 10 more kills (65-55) in six more attack attempts (156-150); and the latter also committed one more error (17-16). UNLV opened the match with its best hitting display, a .536 efficiency in the first, and stayed posted set winning percentages of .269 in the second and .364 in the fourth, while the second set saw them hit .125. SDSU hit .370 in the third and .333 in the fourth, but was limited to .107 and .200 efforts in the first and second, respectively.
Jaida Harris paced the Rebels with her third 20+ kill match, and second straight, with a combination of 22 kills, four digs, two block assists and one service ace. Harris, who hit .360 for the match, also recorded 24 points in the match.
The Rebels also got 12 kills off .455 hitting from Brooklynn Williams. The offense also got 10 kills apiece from Rheanna Deen-Jackson (.381 hitting) and Basia Latos and seven each from Alondra Alarcon, with Agata Makowska and Kaia Thiele dishing out 27 and 23 assists, respectively.
REBEL NOTES: Libero Caleigh King posted 16 digs to reach 854 and is now 10th on the all-time program list for career digs. The Rebels collected 20 block assists led by Deen-Jackson's six, while Williams added four and the duo of Latos and Logan Lindsay chipped in three.
UP NEXT: UNLV heads back out on the road next week with conference contests against Boise State and Utah State. The Rebels begin the trip against the Broncos Thursday at 5 p.m. PT before continuing to the northern portion of the trip to face the Aggies Saturday at 11 a.m. PT.
