LAS VEGAS (UNLVRebels.com) – UNLV women's golf junior
Zi Yu Foong was named the Mountain West Women's Golfer of the Month, the league office announced Thursday. This is her first career Mountain West weekly or monthly award and the first received by a Rebel this season.
Originally from Salangor, Malaysia, Foong recorded a pair of top-2 finishes, a 70.4 scoring average over five rounds and four rounds under par in September. Her performances included her first career victory at the Colonel Wollenberg Ptarmigan Ram Classic and a tie for second at the season-opening Dick McGuire Invitational.
In the Ram Classic, she posted the best 36-hole score of her career with a 6-under 138 (67-71), including a career-low round of 5-under 67, before rain caused a third-round cancellation. She shared runner-up honors at the Dick McGuire Invitational, shooting a 2-under 214 (69-70-75) for the tournament.
The Scarlet & Gray standout is currently representing her home country of Malaysia at the World Amateur Team Championships in Singapore taking place through Saturday, Oct. 4.
UP NEXT: The Rebels' fall tournament slate continues on Friday, Oct. 2, in Highlands Ranch, Colorado at Denver's Ron Moore Intercollegiate.
