Rebels Suffer Four Set Loss To Aggies

LOGAN, Utah (UNLVRebels.com) -  The UNLV volleyball team (10-10, 4-6 MW) suffered its second straight loss with its 3-1 setback to Utah State (13-7, 10-0 MW) on Saturday afternoon at the Wayne Estes Center. The visiting Rebels won the first set before falling in the remaining sets where USU claimed the four-set contest behind set scores of 26-28, 25-16, 26-24, 25-21.

The Aggies outhit the Rebels with help from two fewer errors (23-25) in eight fewer attack attempts (155-163). The former had 15 more kills (65-50) along with a .271 hitting percentage compared to a .153 clip from UNLV. Neither squad hit especially well through the first frame of play, as UNLV .125, while USU hit .106. The Aggies bounced back in the second set, hitting a match-high .407 and the Scarlet & Gray hit just .139 in the second frame. USU hit .341 and .300 in sets three and four, respectively, while UNLV hit .256 and .091 in the final two sets, respectively. 

UNLV was paced by double-digit kills from Jaida Harris and Alondra Alarcon, with the former combining a team-high 18 kills along with seven digs and five blocks (four block assists, one solo block) along with three service aces, while the latter totaled 16 kills, hit .389 with eight digs, earned two block assists and added two service aces.

The Rebels also got six kills apiece from Basia Latos and Rheanna Deen-Jackson with the latter collecting two block assists and a pair of service aces. Junior setter Agata Makowska earned herself 25 assists and nine digs.

REBEL NOTES: The Rebels collected a season-best seven service aces assists. Libero Caleigh King posted eight  digs to reach 879 career digs and is now in sole possession of ninth on the all-time career digs list in program history. Additionally, she is 121 digs away from becoming the seventh member of the 1,000 dig club in UNLV history.

UP NEXT: The Rebels return home where they will face Boise State on Thursday, Oct. 30 at 6:30 p.m. followed by Utah State on Saturday, Nov. 1 at 12 p.m.
