Rebels Tame Broncos In Straight Sets

LAS VEGAS (UNLVRebels.com) -  The UNLV volleyball team returned to its winning ways with a decisive 3-0 victory over Boise State on Thursday evening at The Pavilion. The Rebels, who won the contest by set scores of 25-19, 25-19, 25-22, were energized after previously falling to the Broncos on the road last week in five sets and have now split the season series, 1-1.

UNLV (11-10, 5-6 MW) outhit Boise State (14-8, 6-5 MW) .282 to .122 with assistance from four more kills (41-37) and nine fewer errors (12-23) despite attempting 12 fewer swings (103-115). The Rebels opened with a .229 effort in the first set with 11 kills against three errors on 35 swings, and then followed it with a .333 average in the second (17-5-36); however, they dropped to a .281 in the third (13-4-32). The Broncos, on the other hand, had their best hitting display in the second set with a .182 efficiency (11-5-33), and were limited to a .111 clip in the opening set and a .081 in the final frame (13-10-37). The Rebels also led in digs (47-46), assists (40-33) and total team blocks (20.0-9.0).

Jaida Harris led the offense with 12 kills on a match-high .480 clip with no errors in 25 total attempts along with six digs, two service aces and one solo block. Freshman setter Kaia Thiele collected her fifth double-double of the season with a team-high 16 assists as well as 11 digs. Junior Libero Caleigh King added 11 digs of her own and now has 890 career digs in her Rebel career.

STAT OF THE GAME: UNLV notched 11 more blocks in the match (20.0-9.0), which ties a season high for blocks in a three-set match. Rheanna Deen-Jackson, Basia Latos and Brooklynn Williams all tallied five blocks apiece, with Deen-Jackson collecting four block assists and one solo block, while the duo of Latos and Williams both posted five block assists.

REBEL OF THE GAME: Deen-Jackson registered six kills on a .417 hitting percentage with five blocks, four digs, and two assists on just two errors. 

UP NEXT: UNLV closes out its homestand Saturday afternoon with a bout against first-place Utah State at 12 p.m.
