LAS VEGAS (UNLVRebels.com) - The UNLV volleyball team was on the wrong end of a 3-0 decision Saturday afternoon, as Utah State claimed the Mountain West contest in straight sets. The Aggies, which won the match behind set scores of 25-23, 25-14, 25-17, went to a perfect 12-0 in the conference standings, while the Scarlet & Gray dropped to 5-7. For the year, UNLV is 11-11; USU 15-7.
Utah State outhit UNLV .390 to .255 with help from 11 more kills (49-38) and three fewer errors (10-13), but the Rebels posted two fewer attack attempts (98-100). The Aggies' hitting efficiency was stellar all match long, as they compiled a .405 clip in set one, .379 in set two and .382 in set three. The Rebels, on the other hand, topped out with a .394 average in the first, but posted a .083 in the second and improved to a .310 in the third.
USU also owned advantages in assists (48-33), aces (9-1), digs (41-29) and both teams tallied six blocks apiece, with the Aggie collecting all six blocks via solo blocks.
Rebel setter Kaia Thiele collected a team-best 15 assists, white fellow setter Agata Makowska posted 12 assists of her own. Jaida Harris led the offense with 11 kills with a .286 hitting percentage with two digs, one service ace and one block assist. The duo of Brooklynn Williams and Alondra Alarcon added five kills apiece, with the former earning a team-high .556 clip. Caleigh King earned herself 12 digs and a rare kill for the junior libero. Additionally, King became one of 10 Rebels all-time to collect 900 or more digs as she sits at 902 career digs.
