ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (UNLVRebels.com) - The UNLV volleyball team defeated New Mexico in three sets on Thursday evening at the Johnson Center. The Rebels, who won the Mountain West affair behind set scores of 25-20, 25-17, 25-23, were paced by Rheanna Deen-Jackson's seven total blocks (six block assists, one solo block) as the Scarlet & Gray swept the season series with the Lobos.
With the win, the Scarlet & Gray improved to 6-7 in conference play and 12-11 overall, while the Lobos, on the other hand, are now 2-11 in the MW and 10-14 on the year. Additionally, the victory was the fourth third win for UNLV against New Mexico..
The Rebels outhit the Lobos .240 to .110, and delving deeper, UNLV hit .289 in the first set, .143 in the second and .265 in the third, while UNM was held to a .136 in set one, -.057 in set two and .267 in set three. UNLV registered six more kills (39-33) with six fewer errors (15-21) in nine fewer attack attempts (100-109). Additionally, the Scarlet & Gray registered seven more digs (42-36), three more assists (34-31) and 11 more blocks (21-10).
The Rebel offense was led by the duo of Jaida Harris and Alondra Alarcon as both tallied 10 kills apiece. The former captured six digs, two block assists and one assist along with a .240 hitting percentage, while the latter posted seven digs, two blocks (one solo block, one block assist), one service ace and one assist. Freshman Brooklynn Williams tacked on eight kills of her own with a 3.53 clip on just two errors, three block assists, one dig and one service ace. Junior Logan Lindsay added five kills, three digs and three blocks assists.
The setter duo of Agata Makowska and Kaia Thiele combined for 28 assists with the former putting up 16 assists, while the latter adding 12 assists. Caleigh King notched a team tying-high seven digs and sits at 909 career digs.
