LAS VEGAS (UNLVRebels.com) — The UNLV men's soccer and men's swimming and diving programs will move from the Western Athletic Conference (WAC) to the Mountain West beginning in the 2026-27 academic year with the MW's additions of the sports announced by the conference office Wednesday.
"The addition of men's soccer and men's swimming and diving to the Mountain West represents a bold step forward in our commitment to broad-based excellence," said MW Commissioner Gloria Nevarez. "These sports not only elevate our competitive profile but also reflect the growing interest and investment from our member institutions. We're proud to support student-athletes in these disciplines and excited to see the impact they'll have on our Conference's future."
After previously competing in the MW for 12 years (2000-11), the Rebel men's swimming and diving team returns to the conference that saw it capture seven straight league titles from 2005-11. During two stints in the WAC (1997-99; 2014-25), the Scarlet & Gray has won seven conference championships, including its current streak of five titles.
Heading into the MW's inaugural men's soccer season, UNLV also comes off time as a WAC affiliate on two separate occasions from 1996-98 and again from 2013-2025. In that span, the Rebels have claimed two conference titles, coming in the 2014 and 2016 seasons.
The other schools joining the league in men's swimming and diving include Air Force, Grand Canyon, Hawai'i and Wyoming. Making the move to the conference in men's soccer are Air Force, UC Davis, Grand Canyon, San José State and Utah Tech.
With the moves, each of UNLV Athletics' 16 sports programs will be members of the Mountain West.
