LAS VEGAS (UNLVRebels.com) - The UNLV volleyball team was defeated 3-1 by the Colorado State Rams in Mountain West action Saturday afternoon at The Pavilion. The Rebels (12-14, 6-10 MW) went ahead 1-0 after the opening set of play, but fell in the next three sets as the visiting Rams (18-8, 12-4 MW) rattled off 43 kills in sets two through four. CSU eventually prevailed with sets scores of 23-25, 25-17, 25-22, 25-19.
CSU outhit UNLV .301 to .160 with help from 16 more kills (62-46) and four fewer errors (19-23) in only one fewer attack attempt (143-144). The Rams managed to hit .250 or better in three of the four sets and committed 13 errors in all three sets they won, while their attackers posted a .486 hitting efficiency and misfired once in the fourth set. The Rebels, on the other hand, topped out with a .308 effort in the first, which saw them register 15 kills against three errors. The team did not fare as well in the next two sets, as they hit .050 or worse and had a minimum of eight errors in each frame.
The Rams dominated defensively at the net with a 19.0 to 5.0 advantage in total team blocks. UNLV's Jaida Harris led the team with 14 kills, 12 digs and one service ace, while Rheanna Deen-Jackson produced eight kills, two block assists and hit .429 overall. Kaia Thiele collected 22 assists to go along with six digs, while Agata Makowska chipped in 19 assists and nine digs.
UP NEXT: UNLV wraps up its homestand next week as they host Fresno State (Nov. 20 - 6:30 p.m.) and San Jose State (Nov. 22 - 1 p.m.).
