LAS VEGAS (UNLVRebels.com) - The UNLV volleyball team was on the wrong end of a 3-0 decision Thursday night, as the Fresno State Bulldogs claimed the Mountain West contest in straight sets. The Bulldogs, which won the match behind set scores of 25-16, 25-19, 25-21, improved to 7-21 (3-14 MW), while the Rebels dropped to 12-15 (6-11 MW).
FSU outhit the Scarlet & Gray .269 to .104 with help from one more kill (36-35) and 12 fewer errors (11-23) in 22 fewer attack attempts (93-115). The Bulldogs' hitting efficiency improved as the match progressed, as they began with a .391 effort in the first set and followed it with a .407 in the second. The Rebels, on the other hand, topped out with a .149 average in the third, but posted a .000 in the first and a .125 in the second.
UNLV and Fresno State were deadlocked at 35 assists apiece, while FSU owned advantages in service aces (8-4), digs (47-43) and total team blocks (18.0-4.0).
Basia Latos led the Rebel offense with 10 kills, a .261 clip, eight digs and one assist, while libero Caleigh King added 10 digs. Alexa Ankerstar recorded 16 assists, and 15 players suited up for the Scarlet & Gray.
