Runnin' Rebels Win Second Straight In 99-85 Victory Over Saint Joseph's

Six UNLV players scored in double figures as the team tallied over 90 points for fourth straight game on Thursday night at the Thomas & Mack Center.

LAS VEGAS (UNLVRebels.com) - Six Runnin' Rebels scored in double figures as the UNLV men's basketball team (3-2) won its second straight game in a 99-85 victory over Saint Joseph's (2-3) Thursday night at the Thomas & Mack Center.

It marked the fourth straight game that the Runnin' Rebels have scored over 90 points.

LEADERS: UNLV was led by Dra Gibbs-Lawhorn's 20 points. It was his second game this season with 20 or more points. Freshman Tyrin Jones added career highs of 16 points, 10 rebounds and six blocks, while Jacob Bannarbie also recorded a double-double with 12 points and 11 rebounds, both career highs.

GAME OF RUNS: The game featured three lead changes and five ties. Trailing 59-58 with 14 minutes to play, UNLV used a 14-4 run to take a 72-63 lead with just under 11 minutes to go. Saint Joseph's cut it to 78-77 with 7:55 left, but the Runnin' Rebels took control with a 12-2 run to lead 90-79 with 4:14 remaining.

QUOTABLE: "That was a good win for the Rebels. That's a good basketball team coached by a long-time very successful coach in Coach Donahue. But we found a way to win. We had to scrap, claw, kick, fight, just had to find a way. And we've gotten better since where we initially started at the beginning of the year. OTHER NOTES: 
- Saint Joseph's had three players score 20 or more (Deuce Jones II with 23, and Derek Simpson and Jaiden Glover-Toscano each with 20).
- UNLV went to the free throw line 15 more times than Saint Joseph's did, outscoring the Hawks by nine at the charity stripe.
- UNLV had a season-high 58 rebounds, outrebounding Saint Joseph's by 19. The Runnin' Rebels grabbed 25 on the offensive glass and doubled up on second-chance points 18-9.
- UNLV had 12 turnovers in the game, but just two in the final 20 minutes.
- Saint Joseph's recorded 25 assists on 26 made field goals.
- Issac Williamson contributed 15 points for UNLV (9 of 11 on FTs), Howie Fleming Jr. had 12 points and a team-high six assists, and Walter Brown added 10 points.
- Jones was 6 of 10 from the field.
- Kimani Hamilton fouled out with 17 minutes remaining in the game after scoring nine points and pulling down seven rebounds.
- UNLV held the lead for 29:51 of the game.
- Saint Joseph's also had 12 turnovers, but UNLV led in points from turnovers 18-8.
- UNLV also led in points in the paint (48-28) and bench scoring (31-11).
- UNLV led 45-40 at the half.
- UNLV limited Saint Joseph's to just 30.6% shooting in the first half, including 15.4% on 3-pointers (2 of 13). Those percentages rose to 51.7% and 46.7% in the second half, respectively.
- UNLV outshot Saint Joseph's 44.9% to 40.0% for the game.
- UNLV has made at least one 3-pointer in a NCAA-record 1,265 straight games.

NEXT FOR THE RUNNIN' REBELS: UNLV's next action will be on the world-famous Las Vegas Strip to compete in the Players Era Men's Championship next week. The Runnin' Rebels will face Maryland on Monday, Nov. 24, and No. 11 Alabama on Tuesday, Nov. 25. Both games are scheduled for 9 p.m. at MGM Grand Garden Arena. A third game will be played either Wednesday, Nov. 26, or Thursday, Nov. 27, at either MGM Grand Garden Arena or Michelob Ultra Arena, depending on the outcomes of the first two contests.
