Runnin' Rebels To Officially Open Pastner Era Tuesday Night At Thomas & Mack Center

UNLV men's basketball's Nov. 4 season opener vs. UT Martin set for 7 p.m.; Court to be rededicated in honor of Jerry and Lois Tarkanian.

LAS VEGAS (UNLVRebels.com) - The UNLV men's basketball team will open the 2025-26 season on Tuesday, November 4, vs. UT Martin at 7 p.m. at the Thomas & Mack Center.

Before the game, the court will be rededicated to honor both legendary Hall of Fame basketball coach Jerry Tarkanian and his wife, Lois, in a special ceremony.

Tuesday will also mark the official debut for the Runnin' Rebels under their new head coach, Josh Pastner. Although new to UNLV, Pastner is entering his 15th year as a collegiate head coach, having previously led Memphis and Georgia Tech for seven seasons each. He holds a career record of 276-187 (.596).

For the 2025-26 season, UNLV's roster has only one returning player, Jacob Bannarbie, and welcomes 13 new faces. The newcomers include eight Division I transfers, a former international professional, a junior college transfer, and three freshmen.

The Runnin' Rebels played two exhibition games in October, one at Washington and the other at home vs. Lincoln University (California). Because of injuries, UNLV played with just seven healthy scholarship players against the Huskies and with eight vs. the Oaklanders.

MORE ABOUT THE ROSTER: This season's UNLV squad returns just one player from 2024-25: redshirt sophomore forward Jacob Bannarbie. The 2025-26 roster adds 13 newcomers - eight Division I transfers, a former international professional, a junior college transfer, and three freshmen. The team features four seniors, three juniors, three sophomores, and three freshmen, with a position breakdown of seven guards, six forwards and a center. Last season, Bannarbie appeared in 19 games (three starts), averaging 1.6 points and 1.8 rebounds in 6.6 minutes, and shooting 52.9% from the field on 17 attempts.

ABOUT UT MARTIN: The Skyhawks are entering year two under head coach Jeremy Shulman. UT Martin went 14-19 overall last season and finished eighth in the Ohio Valley Conference at 9-11. The Skyhawks return seven players from last season, five of whom started at least six contests. That list includes Ohio Valley Conference "Players to Watch" Afan Trnka (8.3 points per game, team-best 97 assists) and Lamine Niang (team-highs of 58.4% FG and 26 blocks). A total of 12 newcomers are set to make their Skyhawk debuts in 2025-26, including nine combined freshmen (one redshirt, eight true). Shulman is in his 16th season overall as a collegiate head coach and has a career record of 360-126.
