SAN DIEGO (UNLVRebels.com) – Behind top-10 finishes by seniors
Toa Yokoyama and
Mayumi Umezu, the Rebels finished second after Tuesday's final round of the San Diego State Classic at The Heights Golf Club (Par 72, 6,356 yards).
Yokoyama placed third with a 6-under 210 and Umezu tied for sixth with a 4-under 212 to lead a Rebel lineup that saw all five players finish in the top 35. The duo shot matching final-round scores of even-par 72 and was joined by Rebel sophomore
Zi Yu Foong at even-par 72 on the day.
In the team standings, the Scarlet & Gray (+1) landed only behind team champion in No. 1 Stanford and was one of three teams that had at least two players shoot sub-par scores through 54 holes. The only other team with multiple individuals finishing beneath the par threshold for the two-day event, Georgia came in third.
The top-ranked Cardinal squad, which tallied a 31-under 833 through 54 holes, also had its own Meja Ortengren grab individual medalist honors at 15-under 833.
Rounding out UNLV's lineup were senior
Hina Matsui (+6) in a tie for 21st, senior
McKenzi Hall (+10) in 33rd and Foong (+11) in a tie for 34th.
UP NEXT: In 12 days, the Rebels resume competition in Peoria, Arizona, at the Westbrook Invitational being hosted by Wisconsin from February 23-24.
NOTES:
- The Rebels have now notched four top-2 finishes during the 2024-25 campaign in five tournaments, including a Ron Moore Intercollegiate victory in the fall.
- Additionally, UNLV has tallied a sixth-or-better finish in each of its five events dating back to the fall schedule.
- Yokoyama posted her fourth top-10 finish of the season, which also includes three top-5 performances.
