Track & Field Set To Host Second Straight UNLV Rebel ELITE

LAS VEGAS (UNLVRebels.com) - As the UNLV track & field team gears up for the halfway point of their outdoor season after a strong start in their first three meets, the program will host the second straight UNLV Rebel ELITE at the Myron Partridge Stadium and Sheila Tarr Smith Field. The meet will stretch across two days this upcoming weekend with free admission, starting in the afternoon of Friday, April 4 and running through Saturday, April 5.

Friday's session will be a short day for the teams in the meet, running four different events that consist of three field and one running. The women's hammer throw, men's shot put and women's long jump will kick off at 12 p.m., with men's hammer throw, women's shot put and men's long jump to follow after. The final events of the day will be the women's 3,000m steeplechase at 4:15 p.m., followed by the men and 4:35 p.m. Saturday will start with the men's discus at 8 a.m., the field events running until the men's javelin throw is scheduled to begin after the women's javelin at 11:30 a.m. Before the running events begin at 11 a.m., UNLV will celebrate nine different ladies from the program for a Senior Day celebration right after the meet's national anthem. The final event is scheduled at 5:35 p.m. PT with the men's 4x400m relay.

The meet holds several other highlights alongside the aforementioned free admission. The meet will hold a fun side event for fans labeled as "The Fastest Kid in Vegas", holding a race for the youth attending the meet on Saturday for a chance to show their skills on the track. The meet will also hand out posters of the UNLV track & field team for the first 100 fans who attend the meet.

The Scarlet & Gray have produced several top times among the Mountain West during the outdoor season, currently holding the top spot in three different events. Kennedi Porter claims the top spot in the 200m (23.41), Natalia Ruiz sits first in the 5000m (16:39.74) and Juliana Roberson is first in the triple jump (12.39m, 40' 7.75") The program has a handful of other top-five marks among their conference opponents, including Porter (2nd, 200m - 11.56) Jaydea Carter (2nd, 100m Hurdles - 13.61), Grace Cunningham (2nd, High Jump - (1.74m, 5' 8.5"), the 4x100m Relay team of Jayda Bushay, Porter, AnnaKay Maitland and Carter (2nd, 44.73), Kaelin Gowdy (4th, 400m - 56.09) and Krishna Jayasankar (3rd, Shot Put, 15.87m, 52' 1" - Discus, 4th, 51.65m, 169' 5").
