COLLEGE STATION, Texas (UNLVRebels.com) - UNLV track & field will send Krishna Jayasankar to the NCAA Outdoor Championships in the Beaver State in two weeks (June 14, 12:30 p.m.) after the junior's qualifying and program record performance in the first round of the discus throw Saturday. Jayasankar advanced following her showing at Texas A&M's E.B. Cushing Stadium.
Jayasankar will continue her season at historic Hayward Field in Eugene, Oregon, after winning her discus throw flight (seventh overall) with a mark of 55.61m (182' 5"). Moreover, her mark shattered a 26-year-old school record previously held by Jessica Marable (52.27m), set in 1999.
Grace Cunningham also competed for the Rebels Saturday, and she finished tied for 36th overall in the high jump (1.71m/5' 7.25").
The Scarlet & Gray wrapped up the West Regionals in the 4x100m Relay with
Gabriella Caldwell,
Kennedi Porter,
Jayda Bushay and
Jaydea Carter finishing 17th (fifth in heat one) with a time of 44.51 seconds.
DAY ONE
Jaydea Carter opened the afternoon in the 100m hurdles where the senior finished 34th overall (13.50) and sixth in her heat. In the shot put, Krishna Jaysankar placed 34th with a mark of 14.99m (49' 2.25").
Senior Kennedi Porter finished 42nd overall (11.61) in the 100m and seventh in her heat, and closed out the afternoon with a 44th place showing (24.22) in the 200m, finishing sixth in her heat.
