Rebels Conquer Bulldogs For First Conference Win

FRESNO, Calif. (UNLVRebels.com) - The UNLV volleyball team (7-5 1-1 MW) recorded its first Mountain West victory of the season Saturday afternoon with a 3-1 win against Fresno State (4-9, 0-2 MW) at the Save Mart Center. The Rebels, who claimed the contest behind set scores of 22-25, 25-19, 25-18, 25-23, were paced by Alondra Alarcon's career-high in kills and Caleigh King's double-double.

HOW IT HAPPENED: Fresno State outhit UNLV by 24 points (.264 to .240); however, UNLV recorded nine more kills (61-52) in 10 more attack attempts (150-140). The Rebels, who committed a total of 25 errors in the match – 10 more than the Bulldogs, hit .188 and .206 in the first two frames of play, but tallied .289 and .256 displays in the third and fourth, respectively. FSU, on the other hand, hit .393 in the opening set and hit a match-low .205 in set three. 

Alarcon combined a match and career-high 25 kills with a .302 clip along with five service aces and five digs, while King notched her first career double-double with 22 digs and 10 assists. With her 25 kills, Alarcon leads the team with eight double-digit kill matches. Jaida Harris produced 16 kills and eight digs for a team-high .394 hitting percentage on just three attack errors. 

Maya Banks added seven kills and two block assists, Rheanna Deen-Jackson produced five kills, two solo blocks, two assists, two digs and one service ace, while the Alexa Ankerstar put up 21 assists, respectively. Kaia Thiele also captured her second career double-double with 23 assists and 11 digs.

REBEL NOTES:
- UNLV has won two straight matches against Fresno State and  leads the all-time series 20-13.
- King upped her season dig total to 127 and, subsequently, her career tally to 736. She needs 105 more to move into the program's top-10 career digs list.

UP NEXT: UNLV remains on the road for two matches against in-state rival UNR on Thursday, Oct. 2 (6 p.m. PT) and Air Force on Saturday, October 4 (12 p.m. PT).
