ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (UNLVRebels.com) - UNLV track & field turned in a productive two-day performance at the New Mexico Team Open, highlighted by senior thrower Krishna Jayasankar's first-place showing in the shot put at the Albuquerque Convention Center.
Friday's action began in the long jump with freshman Gabby Goodgames recording a personal-best mark of 5.55 meters (18' 2.5") to place 11th overall. The throws group delivered one of the day's top finishes, as Amaya Mitchell-Howard earned third place in the weight throw with a strong toss of 18.91 meters (62' 0.5"), while Lauryn Williams added a mark of 14 meters (45' 11").
Jayda Bushay won heat four of the 200 meters in 24.44 seconds, with Aly Winston close behind after finishing second in heat two at 24.52. In the 400 meters, Kaitlyn Webbe placed third overall with a time of 56.12, winning heat two. Bushay followed with an eighth-place finish at 56.90, while Gabriella Caldwell claimed heat 8 in 58.93.
Saturday brought even more momentum for the Rebels. Winston placed third in the unseeded 60 meters, winning heat one with a time of 7.66 seconds. The 60 meters Invitational saw KayVeonna Jackson clock a personal-best 7.28 to win her heat before being sidelined from the final due to an injury. Goodgames also recorded a personal best in the event, finishing in 7.65 seconds (7.67 altitude adjusted).
In the shot put, Krishna Jayasankar delivered a standout performance, winning the event with a personal best throw of 16.63 meters (54 feet, 6 3⁄4 inches). The mark now ranks second all-time in UNLV indoor program history as she bested her previous personal best mark by 0.60 meters.
In the 60 meter hurdles, Jaci Wright advanced through preliminaries with a time of 8.48, finishing second in her heat and second overall. She went on to place third in the finals with a time of 8.46 seconds (8.48 altitude adjusted). Goodgames added a 16th-place finish at 8.87. Sadia Green competed in the 400 meter Invitational, posting a time of 56.35 (58.46 altitude adjusted). In the triple jump, Kayli Middleton recorded a personal-best leap of 11.56 meters (37 feet, 11.25 inches) to place 11th overall.
Distance events rounded out the meet for UNLV, with Reagan Reed running 5:31.98 in the mile and Alana Sangprasit finishing in 5:45.86. The Rebels closed strong in the 800 meters, as Taryn Bailey finished seventh with a personal-best 2:13.32, which converts to 2:12.58 after altitude adjustment.
