LAS VEGAS (UNLVRebels.com) – UNLV men's basketball junior Dra Gibbs-Lawhorn has been named the Raising Cane's Outstanding Rebel of the Week, the school announced Wednesday.
Gibbs-Lawhorn has earned the recognition for the second time this season, while it's also the men's basketball team's third of the year.
The award goes to the student-athlete who turned in the best individual performance during the previous week of competition from Monday through Sunday as voted on by the UNLV Athletics Strategic Communications department.
A native of Lafayette, Indiana, Gibbs-Lawhorn averaged 28.5 points, three assists, 2.5 rebounds and one steal and shot 55.6% (20-of-36) in two games against Fresno State and Grand Canyon.
In a win over Grand Canyon, Gibbs-Lawhorn scored a game-high 29 points, had two rebounds, two assists, a steal and a blocked shot. In the first half, he posted 20 of his 29 points and made three 3-pointers, while making all six of his free throw attempts.
At Fresno State, Gibbs-Lawhorn finished with 28 points, four assists, three rebounds and a steal. Additionally, he shot 10-of-13 (.769) from the field, including 4-of-6 (.667) on 3-pointers. He also made all four of his free throw attempts against the Bulldogs.
