LAS VEGAS (UNLVRebels.com) – UNLV women's swimming junior Ava Olson has been named the Raising Cane's Outstanding Rebel of the Week, the school announced Wednesday.

Olson earned the recognition for the first time this season, while it's the swimming & diving team's third of the year.

The award goes to the student-athlete who turned in the best individual performance during the previous week of competition from Monday through Sunday as voted on by the UNLV Athletics Strategic Communications department.

A native of Tulare, California, Olson claimed three total medals and broke two school records at the MW Swim & Dive Championships.

Olson won the 500 free title and automatically qualified for the NCAA Championships. She broke the program record in the event for the third time this season (4:43.08). It was the school's first conference title in the event since 2012.

Adding more podium finishes, she grabbed silver in the 1650 free, breaking a 15-year-old program record (16:23.21) and earned her second NCAA qualifying time of the week. Additionally, Olson was also the anchor leg of the Rebels' 800 free relay team that claimed silver with the third-fastest time in program history (7:10.94).
