ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (UNLVRebels.com) - The UNLV track & field team turned in a strong two-day showing at the New Mexico hosted Don Kirby Elite Invitational at the Albuquerque Convention Center.
Friday's action saw Kayli Middleton posting a personal-best mark of 4.97 meters (16 feet, 3.75 inches) in the long jump. In the weight throw, Amaya Mitchell-Howard led the way with a toss of 18.14 meters (59 feet, 6.25 inches), and Lauryn Williams added a personal best of 14.16 meters (46 feet, 5.5 inches).
On the track, Jayda Bushay clocked 24.40 seconds in the unseeded 200 meters, with an altitude-adjusted time of 24.47. Reagan Reed ran 11:11.34 in the 3,000 meters, while Kaitlynn Webbe (55.83) and Malika Mashack (57.48) competed in the unseeded 400 meters. Taryn Bailey capped the day with a seventh-place finish in the 600 meters at 1:33.11.
Saturday saw Krishna Jaysankar capture first place in the shot put with a personal-best throw of 16.83 meters (55 feet, 2.75 inches), as she remains second on the all-time indoor shot put list in program history. Jaci Wright continued the momentum by recording a personal-best 8.39 seconds in the 60-meter hurdles.Â
Reed added another personal best in the mile run, finishing in 5:26.81 (5:19.69 altitude adjusted). Bailey followed with a personal-best performance in the 800 meters, running 2:13.10 (2:12.36 altitude adjusted) to place eighth. The Rebels closed the meet with a seventh-place finish in the 4x400-meter relay, as Webbe, Aly Winston, Mashack and Bushay combined for a time of 3:42.23.
UP NEXT: The Rebels take next week off before competing in the three-day Mountain West Indoor Track & Field Championships at the Reno-Sparks Convention Center in Reno, Nevada, taking place Thursday, February 26 through Saturday, February 28.Â
