LAS VEGAS (UNLVRebels.com) – UNLV's
Lauren Fettic has been named Mountain West Pitcher and Freshman of the Week, the conference announced today.
The 5-foot-11 freshman pitcher went 2-0 for UNLV during the Rebel Classic to help lead the Scarlet & Gray to a 4-1 weekend. The Boise, Idaho native collected wins against Idaho State and Merrimack, both on Saturday, Feb. 21. Through two games, she held her opponents to a .111 batting average and had a combined four walks in her two appearances. Fettic collected her second win of the season in relief as the Rebels defeated the Bengals 14-6 in six innings. Against Idaho State, she pitched 2.2 innings, allowed two hits, struck out one and did not let the Bengals get a run. Fettic remained in the circle for game two of the evening, and collected her first career shutout against Merrimack, 8-0 in five innings. During her five innings of work against the Warriors, she only allowed one hit, three walks and struck out a career-high six batters. Fettic is now 3-2 on the season.
This is the first weekly honor for Fettic and the Rebels this season.
The Scarlet & Gray will make their first road trip of the season visiting the
desert next door to Arizona. The Rebels will compete in the GCU/ASU Classic hosted by both
schools. UNLV will join UC Riverside, Eastern Illinois and Wisconsin. The Rebels will open up the classic on Friday, Feb. 27 at 12:15 p.m. PT/1:15 p.m. PT against UC Riverside in Tempe, Ariz.
