Rebels Return To Reno For Conference Meet

LAS VEGAS (UNLVRebels.com) - The UNLV track & field program returns to the Reno-Sparks Convention this week for the 2026 Mountain West Indoor Championships. The Rebels are all too familiar with the site and location of this week's conference meet, as the program has already made two trips to Reno to kick off the 2026 indoor campaign, the Silver State Invitational & Combined Events and the UNR Invitational.

The Rebels enter the three-day meet with four student-athletes and one relay team ranked in the top 10 in the MW, while the 4x400m relay and Distance Medley Relay are fifth and sixth, respectively.

Leading the way for the Scarlet & Gray is KayVeonna Jackson who sits tied for first overall in the MW in the 60m with a conference and personal-best altitude adjusted time of 7.30, which ranks tied for 36th in the NCAA. Additionally, Jaci Wright comes in second in the 60m Hurdles with a personal-best altitude adjusted time of 8.41.

The throwing duo of Krishna Jayasankar and Amaya Mitchell-Howard sits second and fifth in the shot put and weight throw in the MW, respectively. The former recorded the second-best shot put mark in program history with a throw of 16.83m (55' 2.75") at the Don Kirby Elite Invitational, while the latter notched a personal best mark of 19.04m (62' 5.75") at the UNR Invitational.

The meet gets underway Thursday 10:00 am with the pentathlon followed by 200m, 500mm and the DMR later in the evening. Jada Lujan will participate in her second pentathlon as she placed 15th at the 2025 MW Indoor Championship in the pentathlon with 2,861 points.

Friday's slate begins with the weight throw at 11:30 am, while the track action gets underway with qualifying portions of the mile, 60m hurdles, 400m, 60m and 800m, beginning at 3:30 pm.

Saturday will see the finals of the aforementioned qualifying events as well as the 4x400m relay, shot put and triple jump.

The Rebels will have some stiff competition, as the defending champion New Mexico Lobos enter the meet ranked No. 28 in the latest USTFCCCA poll, while the Boise State Broncos sit at No. 45. Additionally, the Colorado State Rams can not be overlooked, as the squad from the front range of the Rocky Mountains has won three of the last four MW Indoor Championship titles.
