LAS VEGAS (UNLVRebels.com) - The UNLV track & field program heads back to Albuquerque, New Mexico, to participate in the Don Kirby Elite Invitational this weekend. The two-day indoor meet will run Friday and Saturday at the Albuquerque Convention Center, and it will be the final tuneup before the MW Indoor Track & Field Championship in Reno in two weeks.
This weekend's meet will be the second and final that the Rebels will attend in the Duke City this month, with the Scarlet & Gray recently competing in the New Mexico Team Open.
The Rebels will send 20 student-athletes to Albuquerque, including Krishna Jayasankar, who collected the Mountain West Women's Field Athlete of the Week and Raising Cane's Rebel of the Week (Feb. 3) after winning the shot put with a personal best throw of 16.63 meters (54' 6.75") at the New Mexico Team Open. The mark now ranks second all-time in UNLV indoor program history as she bested her previous personal best mark by 0.60 meters. Her mark of 16.63 meters currently ranks second in the Mountain West and 24th in the NCAA. Additionally, KayVeonna Jackson will look to improve on her 60m time of 7.28 (altitude adjusted to 7.30) as her time ranks fifth all-time in program history. Moreover, her 7.30 altitude adjusted time of 7.30 sits first in the MW.
Also representing UNLV this weekend in individual events will be: Taryn Bailey (600m, 800m), Jayda Bushay (200m, 400m), Gabriella Caldwell (200m), Gabby Goodgames - (60m, 60m Hurdles, Long Jump), Kaelin Gowdy (400m), Sadia Green (200m, 400m), Kayli Middleton - Long Jump, Triple Jump), Amaya Mitchell-Howard (Weight Throw), Claire Rands (600m, 800m), Reagan Reed (1 Mile, 3000m), Juliana Roberson (Long Jump, Triple Jump), Kaitlynn Webbe (400m), Lauryn Williams (Shot Put, Weight Throw), Aly Winston (60m, 200m) and Jaci Wright (60m Hurdles). Furthermore, the Scarlet & Gray will see the 4x400m Relay team in action to close out the meet on Saturday at 2:00 pm PT.Â
Friday's action begins with the long jump at 11:00 am PT, while Saturday starts early at 8:30 am PT with women's shot put.
IN THE STANDINGS: In addition to Jayasankar and Jackson, UNLV owns six top-eight spots in the MW standings.
- In the 60m hurdles, Wright sits third (8.46/8.48 altitude adjusted).
- In the weight throw, Mitchell-Howard sits third (19.04m/62' 5.75").
- In the DMR, the Scarlet & Gray sits fourth (12:38.92/12:29.16 altitude adjusted time).Â
- In the 4x400m relay, UNLV sits seventh (3:48.27/3:48.71 altitude adjusted time).
