LAS VEGAS (UNLVRebels.com) – UNLV women's track & field senior Krishna Jayasankar has been named the Raising Cane's Outstanding Rebel of the Week, the school announced Tuesday.

Jayasankar has earned the recognition for the first time this season, while it's also the track & field team's first of the year.

The award goes to the student-athlete who turned in the best individual performance during the previous week of competition from Monday through Sunday as voted on by the UNLV Athletics Strategic Communications department.

A native of Chennai, Tamil Nadu, India, Jayasankar won the shot put with a personal-best throw of 16.63 meters (54' 6.75") at the New Mexico Team Open. The throw ranks second all-time in UNLV indoor program history and bested her previous personal-best mark by 0.60 meters.

Her mark of 16.63 meters currently ranks first in the Mountain West and 19th in the country. Additionally, she was named the Mountain West Women's Field Athlete of the Week.
