FULLERTON, Calif. (UNLVRebels.com) - The Ben Brown Invite produced strong performances across multiple events for the UNLV Rebels track and field team, highlighted by a stadium-record relay victory, an event championship in the discus and several personal-best marks during the two-day meet at the Titan Track Complex.
UNLV opened competition Thursday with a solid showing in the long jump. Kayli Middleton led the Rebels with a fourth-place finish after posting a mark of 5.37 meters (17 feet, 7½ inches). Gabby Goodgames followed closely in eighth at 5.33m (17-6), while Juliana Roberson placed ninth with a jump of 5.31m (17-5 1/4 ). Mya Wiley made her collegiate debut in the event, recording a mark of 4.68m (15-4¼).
Friday's competition proved to be the highlight of the weekend for the Rebels. UNLV's 4x100m Relay team of Victoria Perrow, KayVeonna Jackson, AnnaKay Maitland and Mikah Scott delivered one of the top performances of the meet, clocking a stadium-record time of 44.44 seconds to win the event.
In the 100m hurdles, Jaci Wright placed third overall with a time of 13.76 after finishing third in the opening heat. Roxene Simpson captured the discus title with a personal-best throw of 52.85 meters (173-4). The mark now ranks second all-time in UNLV outdoor program history. Teammate Sophia Clark also delivered a personal best in the event, finishing seventh with a throw of 47.23m (154-11).
UNLV's quarter-milers produced another strong showing. Kaitlynn Webbe finished second in the 400 meters with a personal-best time of 54.32, while Kaelin Gowdy placed fourth in 54.47, also a personal best. Malika Mashack added a personal-best time of 56.75, and Jada Go Forth recorded a personal-best 58.59 while finishing second in her heat. In the sprints, Aly Winston led the Rebels in the 100 meters with an eighth-place time of 11.90, while Wynter Williams recorded a personal best of 13.01.
The middle-distance group also contributed podium finishes. Taryn Bailey placed third in the 800 meters with a time of 2:10.20, while Kenley Gowdy finished eighth in 2:15.01, a personal-best effort. Middleton returned to the podium in the triple jump, recording a personal-best mark of 11.97 meters (39-3¼) to finish third. Roberson also scored in the event with a fifth-place jump of 11.95m (39-2½). Perrow capped the meet with another standout performance, winning the 200 meters in 23.67 seconds. Jackson followed with a personal-best time of 24.24 to win her heat and place fifth overall. Reagan Reed and Aine McDade rounded out UNLV's distance efforts with personal best times of 4:50.33 in the 1500 meters and a time 19:11.43 in the 5000 meters, respectively.
