Runnin' Rebels Sweep Utah State For First Time In 12 Years With 92-65 Win

Howie Fleming Jr. recorded his second triple-double in the last four games; Five UNLV players scored in double figures on Senior Night, led by Kimani Hamilton's 24 points.

LAS VEGAS (UNLVRebels.com) - The UNLV men's basketball team defeated Utah State 92-65 Tuesday night at the Thomas & Mack Center, marking its first regular-season sweep of the Aggies since the 2013-14 season.

Five Runnin' Rebels (16-14, 11-8) scored in double figures on Senior Night, led by Kimani Hamilton and Tyrin Jones, who combined to score 41 points. Hamilton had a game-high 24 on 10 of 14 shooting, while Jones scored 17 on 8 of 10 from the field.

UNLV's Howie Fleming Jr. recorded his second triple-double in the last four games with 12 points, 10 rebounds, and 12 assists against the Aggies. 

Utah State (24-6, 14-5), which entered the game in sole possession of first place in the Mountain West standings, was led by Mason Falslev's double-double of 20 points and 11 rebounds.

SEASON SWEEP: UNLV swept Utah State during the regular season for the first time since the 2013-14 season. The Runnin' Rebels also defeated the Aggies on Jan. 20, in Logan, Utah, 86-76. UNLV has now recorded four sweeps over MW opponents this season: Air Force, Boise State, San Jose State, and Utah State.

TRIPLE-DOUBLES: Howie Fleming Jr. also recorded a triple-double on Feb. 21 at Air Force with 10 points, 10 rebounds, and 10 assists. He is the first Runnin' Rebel to have two triple-doubles since Stacey Augmon. The Runnin' Rebel legend had one as a freshman during the 1987-88 season and another as a senior in 1990-91. Fleming Jr. is believed to be the first Runnin' Rebel to ever have two triple-doubles in the same season.

TEAM STAT OF THE GAME: UNLV shot 70% from the field in the second half (21 of 30), finishing the game at 57.6% (34 of 59), while it held Utah State to just 24.0% (6 of 25) in the first half and 37.7% (23 of 61) for the game. 

OTHER NOTES: 
- Issac Williamson scored 15 points on 5 of 7 shooting from 3-point range.
- Dra Gibbs-Lawhorn, the Mountain West's leading scorer, was scoreless in the first half and finished with 10 points. It was the first time in his last 10 games that he didn't score 20-plus points.
- UNLV made twice as many 3-pointers as Utah State, shooting 10 of 25 (40%) from long range compared to 5 of 30 (16.7%) for the Aggies.
- UNLV made 82.4% of its free throw attempts (14 of 17).
- UNLV outrebounded Utah State, 36-30.
- UNLV recorded 21 assists on 34 made field goals (61.8%).
- UNLV led 32-24 at the half and outscored Utah State 60-41 over the final 20 minutes.
- UNLV led in points in the paint 46-34, fast break points 18-5, and bench scoring 35-26.
- UNLV has made a 3-pointer in 1,290 straight games - every one since the NCAA adopted the rule in 1986.

NEXT FOR THE RUNNIN' REBELS: UNLV will play its final game of the regular season on Friday night at San Diego State. The 7 p.m. game will be televised nationally on CBS Sports Network.
