Tyler Harris To Join Men's Basketball Program

6-foot-7-inch forward to transfer to the Runnin' Rebels from Vanderbilt.

LAS VEGAS (UNLVRebels.com) - The UNLV men's basketball program has received a signed commitment from Tyler Harris to join the Runnin' Rebels for the 2026-27 season, head coach Josh Pastner announced Thursday.

Harris, a 6-foot-7-inch, 210-pound forward originally from Hayward, California, is transferring from Vanderbilt, where he was a member of the SEC program for the past season. Before that, he was at Washington and Portland.

As a junior during the 2025-26 season in Nashville, Tennessee, he played in 30 games and averaged 5.5 points and 2.3 rebounds on 40.4% shooting from the field. He scored in double figures in his first five games of the season, finishing with 10 or more points in seven contests. He scored a season-high 17 against Eastern Kentucky and added 16 against New Haven. The Commodores finished the season 27-9 overall with a NCAA Tournament second-round appearance.

"Tyler is a long, athletic wing who really fits what we want to do," Pastner said. "He can stretch the floor with his ability to shoot the three, but he's also a guy who can create his own shot off the bounce and thrive in transition and the open court. Defensively, he's active, he blocks shots, and he rebounds at a high level, which is something we really value. He has shown that he can shoot efficiently and the impact that he can have. We're excited about how his length, athleticism, and versatility will fit into our system."

At Washington as a sophomore during the 2024-25 season, he played in 30 games, making 27 starts, including the final 26 games of the season. He averaged 11.8 points and 5.0 rebounds per contest, while leading the team in 3-point percentage at 49.5. He was second on the team in overall field-goal percentage at 49.2. He tallied 20 games with double figures in scoring, including four 20+ point outings. He scored a career-high 27 points that season against Alcorn.

As a freshman during the 2023-24 campaign at Portland, he earned All-West Coast Conference Freshman Team honors after averaging 12.1 points per game. He led his team and ranked sixth in the WCC with 7.3 rebounds per game. He started 21 of 22 games and shot 46% from the field. He had 13 games in double figures with three 20-point outings.

A 2023 graduate of Granada High School, he led his team to the program's first California Interscholastic Federation NorCal Division I championship, upsetting numerous teams as the No. 9 seed en route to the title. His team earned a runner-up finish at the State Division I Boys Championship, and he finished with a team-high 17 points and 10 rebounds in the title game loss. He was named All-State Third Team in the top division for California and was a San Francisco Chronicle All-Metro Team selection and All-East Bay Athletic League Second Team as a senior.

Harris joins Terrance Ford Jr.Cam Miles, and MJ Thomas as incoming players to the Runnin' Rebel program for the 2026-27 season.

COMMITTED RETURNING REBELS: Tyrin Jones and Issac Williamson have both committed to return to the program in 2026-27 after playing as freshmen in 2025-26. Jones was selected to the Mountain West's All-Defensive Team and earned honorable mention All-MW honors. He averaged 11.9 points and 5.0 rebounds per game, while leading the league in blocks with 2.2 per contest. Williamson scored 8.6 points per game.

PASTNER ENTERING SECOND SEASON: The 2026-27 campaign will be the second for Josh Pastner as head coach of the Runnin' Rebels. He led the program to the postseason in his first year at the helm, advancing to the second round of the NIT.
