Nov. 8, 2000

LAS VEGAS - The UNLV golf team has received a national letter of intent from Ryan Moore, a high school senior at Cascade Christian High School in Puyallup, Wash., head coach Dwaine Knight announced Wednesday.

Moore is an American Junior Golf Association All-American and was the runner-up in the prestigious U.S. Junior Amateur. He is currently the 17th-ranked amateur by Golfweek magazine among U.S. boys.

"We feel he is really a quality individual with tremendous opportunity to be an outstanding player," Knight said of Moore. "He's got experience in winning and he's very focused, dedicated and committed. He has really improved in a year, has worked hard to become stronger physically and worked on his golf game. I think he has a bright future."

This year, Moore has five straight top-20 finishes on the AJGA circuit, including a win at the South Puget Sound League golf tournament two weeks ago. Last summer, he joined Fred Couples as a medallist of the Washington State Golf Championship, and won the 1999 Boise Junior Classic with a 12-under par 204 and a low round of 65.

Most recently, Moore was selected the 2000 Pacific Northwest Junior Boys' Amateur Player of the Year.

Moore chose UNLV over such nationally prominent schools as Oklahoma State, Arizona and TCU. He is only recruit the Rebels will sign during the early signing period.
