LAS VEGAS (UNLVRebels.com) - UNLV men's golf freshman Garrick Higgo has been named the Outstanding Rebel of the Week presented by Air Force Reserve, the school announced Wednesday.

The award goes to the student-athlete who turned in the best individual performance during the previous week of competition from Monday through Sunday as voted on by the UNLV Athletic Communications department.

Higgo, a Stellenbosch, South Africa, native, led the No. 20 Rebels to a third-place finish at the NCAA Columbus Regional last week. The freshman finished with a 54-hole total of 1-over to tie for 10th at the event, which featured 75 players. His best round came in opening 18 holes as he shot a 2-under 69. With the third-place team finish, the Rebels advanced to the NCAA finals for the second straight year, third time in the last four seasons and for the 21st time overall in program history.

The 2018 NCAA Division I Men's Golf Championship will take place at Karsten Creek Golf Club in Stillwater, Oklahoma, May 25-30. UNLV advanced to the tournament's elite eight a year ago.
