BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - The fourth-ranked UNLV golf team shot a final-round 289 Tuesday to finish in second place at the Jerry Pate National Intercollegiate held at the par-71, 6,958-yard Old Overton Golf Club.
The Rebels (279-278-289-846) finished 14 shots behind team champion Clemson, who finished with a 54-hole total of 832. Oklahoma State (847) finished third, followed by Houston (851) and Alabama (852).
UNLV Junior Jeremy Anderson shot a final-round 74 and finished tied with UCLA's B.J. Schlagenhauf for the individual championship at nine-under-par 204.
Anderson's win marks the first time this season he has won medalist honors and the third time in his career.
Other Rebels competing were senior Charley Hoffman (68-74-71-213) who tied for 15th, junior Michael Kirk (74-67-74-215) who tied for 19th, senior Chris Berry (70-74-72-216) who tied for 22nd and freshman Adam Scott (78-72-74-224) who tied for 46th.
UNLV will be back in action Nov. 6-8, as it competes in its final fall tournament at the GolfWorld Invitational in Hilton Head, S.C.
