MARICOPA, Ariz. (UNLVRebels.com) – Behind under-par scorecards in the final round from all four individual scorers, the UNLV men's golf team lassoed a fourth-place finish Wednesday at the Wyoming Cowboy Classic at Ak-Chin Southern Dunes Golf Club (par 72, 7,330 yards).
REBEL FINISH: The Rebels closed the event with their second consecutive 8-under 280 round, tying the day's second-lowest score, to finish at 19-under 845 through 54 holes. Senior
Wyatt Plattner paced the Scarlet & Gray scoring on the day with his bogey-free 4-under 68, which also marked his season-low-to-par score for a single round. Adding their own under-par scores, junior
Zach Little tallied a 2-under 70 to go along with 1-under 71 rounds by both senior
Brett Sawaia and junior
Ryan Abuan.
REBEL ROUNDUP: Leading the Scarlet & Gray lineup's four top-20 finishers, senior
Trevor Lewis (68-69-73) tied for 10th at 6-under 210 for the tournament. Joining him in that group, Little (73-69-70) and Plattner (74-70-68) each tied for 14th with their par-72-course season lows of 4-under 212, followed by Sawaia's (70-72-71) tied-for-20th finish with his season low of 3-under 213.
Also playing in the lineup, Abuan (+19) took 123rd. Freshman Aaron van Hauwe (+7) tied for 81st competing as an individual.
CHAMPIONS: USC came away with the team title at 26-under 838. The Red Wolves' Thomas Schmidt earned individual medalist honors with a 54-hole score of 13-under 203.
UP NEXT: UNLV will close the regular season at the Western Intercollegiate being hosted by San Jose State from April 13-15 at Pasatiempo Golf Club.
NOTES:
- The performance at the Wyoming-hosted event marked the Rebels' third top-5 finish this spring.
- Junior Zach Little's tied-for-14th outing extended his streak of top-15 individual finishes to five consecutive tournaments.
