Men's Golf Finishes in Third at Golf Digest Invitational

LAS VEGAS - The top-ranked UNLV men's golf team shot a final-round five-over par 293 to finish in third place at the Golf Digest Collegiate Invitational played at the par-72, 7,013-yard Desert Inn & Country Club Sunday.

Virginia (283-283-289-855, nine-under par), the second-round leader, held on for the title, while TCU (287-296-282-865) shot a third-round low 282 to move up three spots and finish in second. The Rebels (290-284-293-867) finished third, Clemson (278-294-298-870) was fourth and Southern Methodist (290-291-292-873) finished fifth.

James Driscoll (69-64-74-207, nine-under par) of Virginia, who tied Tom Kite's course record on Saturday with a score of 64, won the tournament's individual title. New Mexico's Doug La Belle (67-70-71-208) finished second. UNLV was led individually by sophomore Jeremy Anderson (68-71-74-213), who tied for sixth.

Other Rebels competing were junior Chris Berry (75-71-71-217/tied for 14th), senior Bill Lunde (75-71-72-218/tied for 16th), junior Charley Hoffman (73-71-77-221/tied for 26th) and freshman Scott Lander (74-75-76-225/tied for 44th).

UNLV's next action will be March 23-24 at the Morris Williams Intercollegiate in Austin, Texas.
