Men's Hoops Downs Cal Poly-SLO, 79-67

SAN LUIS OBISPO, Calif. (AP) - Shawn Marion had 23 points, six rebounds and five blocked shots Saturday night as UNLV beat Cal Poly-San Luis Obispo 79-67 to snap the Mustangs' eight-game home-court winning streak.

Reserves Edwin Daniels and Donovan Stewart added 16 and 12 points, respectively, and Kaspars Kambala had 10 points and nine rebounds for the Rebels (7-6).

Kevin Simmons grabbed 12 rebounds to lead UNLV to a 44-25 advantage in that department, and Mark Dickel had 10 assists for the winners.

Jabbar Washington and Chris Bjorklund led Cal Poly (5-6) with 21 points each.

UNLV went ahead for good in the opening minutes. It was 40-24 before the Mustangs finished the first half with 11 straight points to draw within five. Cal Poly got as close as three points early in the second half before the Rebels took command.

UNLV made 52.4 percent of its field goal attempts (33-of-63) to just 40.7 percent (24-of-59) for Cal Poly. Each team went 6-of-21 from beyond the 3-point line.
