LOS ANGELES - The 42nd-ranked UNLV men's tennis team opened its 1999 season by winning only one of six singles matches and falling to 15th-ranked Southern California 6-1 at Marks Tennis Stadium Friday.
The Trojans (2-0) opened the day by sweeping doubles for one team point. The Rebels (0-1) then fell at the top five singles spots, including 34th-ranked Asaf Tishler losing to Patrick Gottesleben, 7-6, 6-2, at the No. 1 slot.
Winning for UNLV at the sixth spot was sophomore Gregor Skorin, who was leading 6-4, 4-1, when his opponent, Gregg Hill, retired.
UNLV next takes on No. 8 Pepperdine on Saturday in Malibu, Calif.
