LAS VEGAS (UNLVRebels.com) – The UNLV men's tennis team honored a trio of seniors ahead of their final home appearance and then downed Air Force, 4-1, on a sun-drenched Thursday at the Fertitta Tennis Complex.
 
The Rebels improved to 12-6 overall, 3-2 in the Mountain West and finished 10-1 at home this season while the Falcons fell to 7-11 and 1-4.
 
UNLV took a 1-0 lead after doubles by winning both completed matches. While Air Force led at the top spot, that match was halted when Rebel duos won 6-3 on both court three and then two. Senior Illia Maksymchuk and Marko Maksimovic downed AJ Moore and Langdon Tingleaf at No. 2 after senior Taiyo Hirano and Michael Kouame doubled up Phillip Deaton and Matthew Staton on court three.
 
In singles play, Maksimovic was done first, 6-1, 6-1, over Deaton at No. 2; senior Vitaliy Horovoy then swept Alec Fritzinger, 6-2, 6-3, at No. 5; and, after the Falcons got on the board with a straight-set win, Ilia Snitari rallied past Moore, 7-5, 6-2, at the top of the lineup to end things. The super soph, ranked 61st nationally, improved to 26-2 on the year, including 14-1 in duals.
 
REBEL OF THE MATCH: Vitaliy Horovoy celebrated his senior day by rolling in his singles match to improve to 14-12 this season.
 
UP NEXT: Done with its home slate, UNLV will close out the conference schedule with a pair of road matches, starting with a trip to New Mexico on Saturday at 11 a.m.
