SAN DIEGO, Calif. - Using superior singles depth, the 53rd-ranked UNLV men's tennis team upset 34th-ranked host San Diego State 4-2 in the second round of the WAC Tennis Championship at Robb Field Thursday.
Fighting through rain delays that pushed the match under the lights, the Rebels won four of six singles matches to clinch before heading to doubles play, which was cancelled.
With its sixth straight win, UNLV improved to 12-8 and 5-2 in the WAC while San Diego State finished 15-5 and 4-4. The victory marked the second time in less than a week that the Rebels downed the Aztecs on the road.
Winning for the Rebels - all in straight sets -- were Damu Bobb, Danny Erez, Gregor Skorin and Andy Madersbacher.
The Aztecs took the top two matches including 47th-ranked Alex Waske upsetting 19th-ranked Asaf Tishler at the No. 1 position.
The Rebels move on to a Friday semifinal vs. eighth-ranked and top-seeded SMU.
