JONESBORO, Ark. - Six players scored in double-figures for the Lady Indians as Arkansas State defeated the UNLV women's basketball team 101-78 on Saturday in a non-conference game at Convocation Center.
UNLV outscored Arkansas State 20-6 over the first 5:08 of the second half to cut ASU's lead to 51-49, however the Lady Indians went on a 27-6 run over 7:04 to take a 23-point lead at 78-55 with 6:58 left to play. UNLV cut the score to 80-63 but came no closer as ASU held on for the win.
Arkansas State jumped out to a 20-12 lead halfway through the first half when senior Kristen Pool and freshman Linda Froehlich hit back-to-back three pointers for UNLV to cut the deficit to two. ASU went on a 10-0 run over the next 3:07 and took a 45-29 lead into halftime.
Arkansas State (4-5) was led by junior Tanisha Johnson's team-high 21 points. Sophomore Keeshia Evans added 20 for the Lady Indians.
Freshman Linda Froehlich led UNLV (5-2) with a game-high 29 points, including 19 in the second half. Froehlich also grabbed a team-high six rebounds. Senior Kristen Pool added 22 points for the Lady Rebels.
UNLV shot .404 from the field for the game, compared to ASU's .486. The Lady Rebels were .450 from three-point range and .793 from the free throw line, while the Lady Indians were .375 and .769, respectively.
UNLV was outrebounded for the game 50-28 and committed 26 turnovers to ASU's 19.
UNLV will be back in action on Monday, Dec. 21, as it travels to Cedar City, Utah, for a 7:35 p.m. MST game with Southern Utah. The Lady Rebels will be back at home on Sunday, Dec. 27 vs. Long Beach State at the Thomas & Mack Center. That game will tipoff at 5:00 p.m. PST.
