Runnin' Rebels Fall In A Shootout

LARAMIE, Wyo. (AP) - Anthony Blakes scored 26 points and grabbed 10 rebounds as Wyoming defeated UNLV 109-98 on Monday in a matchup of the highest scoring teams in the Mountain West Conference.

Wyoming (13-8, 3-3 Mountain West) shot 63 percent in the first half and was never headed after building a 63-45 halftime lead.

The Cowboys used a blistering fast break to snap a four-game win streak by UNLV (13-5, 4-2).

Josh Davis keyed consecutive scoring breaks with blocked shots and Blakes' free throw concluded a 20-5 run that gave the Cowboys their biggest lead at 83-50 with 16:08 remaining.

After that, the Runnin' Rebels never got closer than the final margin.

Bradley Mann scored 19 and Davis had 18 for Wyoming. LeDarion Jones and Marcus Bailey added 17 and 13, respectively, for the Cowboys.

Kaspars Kambala, who was averaging 19 points and nine rebounds in the Mountain West, was held to 11 points and four boards.

The Rebels' Mark Dickel led all scorers with 29. Dalron Johnson scored 14, and Donovan Stewart had 10.

UNLV came in averaging 84.6 points in conference games, while Wyoming was scoring 83.6.

Danny Brotherson's tip-in with 8:11 remaining in the first half gave UNLV its only lead, 33-32.

Jones answered with a 3-point play, igniting a 31-12 run that closed out the half and left the Cowboys up 63-45.
