Rebels Run Over High Point

LAS VEGAS (AP) - Mark Dickel had 19 points and eight assists to lead UNLV to a 72-53 victory over High Point Tuesday night.

The Rebels (9-3) overcame 36 percent shooting and 17 turnovers to fend off the Panthers (6-6).

Kaspars Kambala chipped in 16 points and nine rebounds for UNLV.

High Point was led by Anthony Jackson, who finished with 13 points and 10 rebounds.

The Panthers jumped out to a 17-4 lead eight minutes into the game and led 21-10 with eight minutes remaining in the half. But UNLV outscored the Panthers 18-4 to take a 28-25 halftime lead.

The Rebels extended their lead to 37-27 early in the second half before High Point rallied to close the gap to 42-41 with 9:41 remaining in the game.

UNLV led by just five points with 5:39 left in the game. They were still able to outscore High Point 20-6 down the stretch as Dickel and Danny Brotherson, who finished with 14 points, combined for 15 of UNLV's final 20 points.

High Point had 35 turnovers in the game.
