BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - The UNLV golf team (289-295--584) sits in 12th place at the Jerry Pate National Intercollegiate at the Old Overton Golf Course, carding a 16-over-par 584 after the first two rounds, both played on Monday.
Three individuals, however, ranked in the top 25 after the first 36 holes, led by sophomore Calvin Kupeyan (69-74--143). Kupeyan was one-over on the par-71 course and tied for 22nd place overall.
One stroke behind Kupeyan are freshmen James Oh (72-72--144) and Travis Whisman (73-71--144), tied for 25th place on the leaderboard.
The Rebels were able to throw out a high score of 80 in each round. Junior Justin Lee (75-80--155), in his UNLV debut, stands in 59th place at 13-over. Sophomore Tyler Mays (80-78--158) follows in 60th overall.
Georgia Tech's Bryce Molder holds a five-stroke lead heading into the final round and has his team atop the leaderboard at 15-under-par.
Despite the high score, only five strokes separate the Rebels from host Alabama in ninth place. Tuesday's final round will begin at 8:00 a.m. CDT.
