Oct. 28, 2000

LAS VEGAS - The UNLV women's soccer team dropped a 2-1 decision to Western Michigan in the first round of the UNLV/FILA Classic on a cold and wet night at Johann Field. The Rebels fall to 10-8 on the year, while the Broncos improve to 9-7-2.

After a scoreless first half, the Rebels tallied the first goal of the match at the 53:09 mark on a cross pass from junior Anita Pedford to a streaking freshman Kelly Oshay for the score. The Broncos knotted the match at one in the 73rd minute as Erin Ivory scored off a corner kick by Abi Morrell. Just five minutes later, Western Michigan added the insurance goal courtesy of a three-on-two breakaway with Megan Urbats beating Rebel freshman keeper, Heidi Hart for the game winner.

UNLV will play UTEP in the consolation match on Sunday at 10:00 a.m., followed by Western Michigan and Devenr in the championship at noon.
