The No. 7 UNLV golf team continues its 2000 fall season at the 15th Annual Rolex/Golf World/Palmetto Dunes Collegiate Invitational in Hilton Head, S.C. The 54-hole tournament will be played at the Arthur Hills Course at Palmetto Dunes Resort (par 72, 6,651 yards), on Friday, Nov. 3 through Sunday, Nov. 5.

The tournament features an impressive field, including eight of the top 10 teams ranked in the Golf World Coaches Poll. No. 1 Georgia is the defending champion and will be challenged by No. 2 Clemson, No. 3 Georgia Tech, No. 4 Arizona, No. 5 Arizona State, No. 6 Texas, No. 7 UNLV, No. 9 South Carolina, No. 11 Oklahoma State, No. 13 TCU, No. 14 New Mexico, No. 15 Houston, No. 17 Florida, No. 18 Wake Forest, No. 19 East Tennessee State, No. 22 Minnesota, North Carolina and Florida Southern.

Representing UNLV at the Jerry Pate will be a young lineup, including sophomores Brett Foulds, Calvin Kupeyan and Tyler Mays, and freshmen James Oh and Travis Whisman.

The Rebels tied for seventh place at the 1999 Golf World Collegiate Inviational (286-278-286--850), led by Jeremy Anderson's nine-under 205. Anderson tied for second overall. Kupeyan is the only member of this week's lineup to have played at Palmetto Dunes, finishing tied for 76th last year (73-77-76--226).

In its last outing, UNLV finished 11th at the Jerry Pate National Intercollegiate. A young lineup fired only one round under par, led by Kupeyan's two-over 215 on the par-71 course.

Following the Jerry Pate, UNLV returns home for a short week of practice before concluding the fall season at the College Golf Foundation Match Play Team Championship in Esotero, Fla., on Nov. 11-12. The Rebels enter that tournament as the No. 7 seed and will face No. 2 Clemson in the first round of the match play format tourney.
