COLORADO SPRING, Colo. - UNLV's Danny Erez has been named the school's first Mountain West Conference Men's Tennis Player of the Week, the league announced Wednesday.
The honor meant the school swept this week's awards as Katarina Malec was tabbed the women's recipient.
A native of Tel Aviv, Israel, Erez posted a perfect 6-0 combined record in singles and doubles play last weekend to lead his team to a tournament championship.
Erez won a match at No. 2 singles in straight sets vs. Utah State and then at No. 3 vs. Northern Arizona. In Sunday's final, however, Erez was the last match on the court with the team match tied at three. After dropping the first set, the junior rallied to down Ola Bentzen of Texas-Arlington 3-6, 6-4, 6-4, at the third position to improve to 8-3 overall.
The victory enabled UNLV to win its own tournament for the fifth straight season.
Erez also teamed with Vladimir Pavicevic for three doubles victories at the No. 2 slot.
The Rebels (3-3) play at Tulsa Friday.
