MONTGOMERY, Ala. - The UNLV men's tennis team lost a close doubles competition and eventually fell to No. 26 Virginia, 4-1, at the Blue-Gray Tennis Classic Friday.
The Rebels lost their second match of the day and third straight overall to dip to 4-10 this season.
UNLV opened the match by winning the second doubles point with Danny Erez and Vladimir Pavicevic upsetting 46th-ranked Tommy Croker and John Winter, 8-6. The Cavaliers came back to win at the third spot and then took the one team point as the 14th-ranked pair of Brian Vahaly and Huntley Montgomery nipped Nenad Zivkovic and Gregor Skorin, 9-8, at No. 1.
In singles play, the Rebels' only point came at No. 4 where Tyler Roberts downed Croker 2-6, 6-4, 10-8 in the super tiebreaker. The Cavaliers won at Nos. 1, 3 and 5 to clinch the match.
UNLV will face unranked Virginia Tech on Saturday to close out the tournament.
