Lobos Rally Past Men's Tennis

April 2, 2000

LAS VEGAS - New Mexico's Bart Scott came back to win tiebreakers in two sets, which was just enough to lead the Lobos past the UNLV men's tennis team 4-3 at the Fertitta Tennis Complex Sunday.

The Rebels closed out their regular season at 7-12 overall, 5-2 at home and 3-2 in the Mountain West Conference. UNM improved to 8-12 and 2-1 in the league.

The Lobos began the day by winning two of three doubles matches for one team point and quickly added an easy win at No. 4 singles. UNLV, however, stormed to a 3-2 lead behind straight-set wins from Nenad Zivkovic at No. 2, Danny Erez at No. 3 and Robbie Parlade at No. 6.

UNLV, which needed just one more point for victory, won the first set in both remaining matches. But, at the top spot, 17th-ranked Matt Amgwerd won the final three games of the third and deciding set to rally past 100th-ranked Vladimir Pavicevic, 6-7, 6-2, 6-4.

Tied at three, the match came down to No. 5 where Scott outlasted Gregor Skorin in dramatic fashion, 2-6, 7-6, 7-6.

The Rebels now prepare for the inaugural MWC championships, which will be held April 20-23 in Albuquerque, N.M.
