Golf Sits Third After First Round Of Tucker

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. - The UNLV golf team is in third place after the first round of the William H. Tucker Intercollegiate, played at the University of New Mexico's Championship Golf Course on Friday.

The Rebels fired a one-over par 289 in the opening round and trail only BYU (280) at eight-under and host New Mexico (285) at three-under.

Leading the way for UNLV was sophomore Calvin Kupeyan. Kupeyan carded a one-under par 71 through the first 18 and was tied for eighth overall, just four strokes behind BYU's Bill Harvey, the first-round leader.

Following Kupeyan for the Rebels was senior Scott Lander, who shot even par and is tied for 15th overall.

Sophomore Brien Davis and freshman James Oh rounded out the Rebels scoring. Both finished the round at one-over par, tied for 23rd. The round was the collegiate debut for Oh.

Also making his debut was freshman Travis Whisman, who carded a six-over par 78 and is tied for 89th place. Sophomore Robert Sul, playing unattached, turned in a two-over 74 and is tied for 45th.

The second round of 18 holes was also scheduled for Friday. If the round is completed, results will be available at www.golobos.com or www.unlvrebels.com.
