Golf Finishes In Second At Tucker

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. - The UNLV golf team, despite a final-round rally, was unable to overtake BYU for the team title and finished second at the William. H. Tucker Intercollegiate on Saturday.

UNLV (289-288-286-863) shot two-under par as a team in the final round and gained seven stroked on BYU (280-288-293-861), but the Cougars held on for the victory.

Individually, sophomore Calvin Kupeyan (71-68-72-211) finished second overall, four strokes behind BYU's Billy Harvey (67-70-70-207) for medalist honors.

Following Kupeyan for the Rebels were senior Scott Lander (72-75-69-216), who carded a three-under on the final day to battle back to even and finish ninth overall, and freshman James Oh (73-72-75-220), who finished 32nd in his collegiate debut.

Rounding out the UNLV lineup were freshman Travis Whisman (78-73-72-223) tied for 43rd place and sophomore Brien Davis (73-80-73-226) in 64th.

Next, UNLV heads to Durham, N.C., to compete in the Preview Invitational on Saturday, Sept. 23.
