LAS VEGAS -The UNLV women's soccer team defeated the Lady Dons of San Francisco 3-2, improving their record to 6-3 on the season and 3-0 at home in an exciting, back-and-forth match on Saturday night at Johann Field.

San Francisco (4-4-1) took an early lead when Heidi Prestegard fired a rebounded ball of Rebel keeper Shannon Wilson for the first score of the game at the 3:01 mark. The game remained 1-0 throughout the rest of the first half with only nine attempted shots by both teams.

As the second half began, the momentum began to switch to UNLV. The Rebels evened the match at one in the 57th minute when sophomore Cosette Joffs fired a crossing shot to an open junior Janae Sims for her third goal of the season.

The Lady Dons took the lead again at the 71:57 mark connecting on a shot by Meghan Daly off another rebound by Wilson. Not more than one minute later, the Rebels scored the second equalizing goal of the match. This time, Joffs scored her team leading fourth goal on a beautiful crossing pass from junior Anita Pedford to even the match at two.

For the second time in the past three games, the winning goal came beyond the 80th minute. Freshman Tania Lee booted a free-kick from about 35 yards out over the keeper's head for the game-winner at 85:44. This was the second come-from-behind victory for the Rebels in the past matches.

The Rebels travel next weekend to Long Beach State on Sept. 29 and Washington State on Oct. 1, before returning home for their conference opener against Wyoming on Oct. 6 at 6:00 p.m.
